The Zambia United Local Authorities Workers Union (ZULAWU) has called on newly appointed Local Government Minister Vincent Mwale to urgently address the challenges facing council retirees.
ZULAWU President Misheck Nyambose says the issue of retirees needs urgent attention as councils are failing to pay them.
Mr. Nyambose says the failure by councils to pay retirees has rendered them destitute.
He is appealing to Mr Mwale to lobby the Minister of Finance to allocate funds for the payments of benefits to council to retirees who he says are languishing in poverty.
Mr. Nyambose has further appealed to President Edgar Lungu to look into the plight of retirees who have waited for their monies for many years.
