Govt, EU in National Renewable Energy project

The Ministry of Energy and the European Union has embarked on a project to come up with National Renewable Energy that targets for Zambia.

The project is aimed bringing a more planned approach to diversification of the energy mix away from dependence on large hydro into other renewable sources such as wind, biomass, solar and geothermal.

Speaking during a stakeholders’ media workshop on renewable energies in Lusaka today, Ministry of Energy Acting Director Department of Energy, Arnold Simwaba says the project will be aligned with the current initiatives in the Zambian renewable energy sub-sector.

Mr. Simwaba says the project has also included key aspects of energy security and energy access.

He says the workshop held today was thus aimed at facilitating exchange of information and ideas on the project and its impact on renewable energy development in the country.
