Hivos sees need for laws to govern nutrition

Hivos says there is need to update the laws that govern the nutrition sector in the country.

Hivos Southern region manager for sustainable foods William Chilufya says the laws looking at nutrition are outdated stressing that they were done in about 1968 which is too long.

He says for instances malnutrition has really changed and so there is need to update the laws to those that will picture malnutrition fight in the country as a multi sectoral issue unlike the way it is.

Mr. Chilufya notes that way back, the country was not talking about obesity then but now it is a problem which is a clear indication that things have changed.

He further states that the laws need to change such that stakeholders are brought together to address malnutrition.
