Ex- Ministers must pay, demands UPND

The opposition UPND has demanded that the PF Ministers who remained in office after the dissolution of parliament should pay back the money they accrued during their illegal stay in office.

The giant opposition political party says it is unfortunate that the former ministers have revealed that they have not accepted the decision of the Constitutional Court which ordered them to pay back money they accrued in salaries and allowances during a period they continued in office when the parliament was dissolved.

UPND Chairman for Rural Reconstruction and Development Moono Mapani says the decision by the ex ministers to write to the Attorney-General to revisit the constitutional court’s ruling is an indication that they do not want to pay what they accrued while in office.

He says the former ministers should not find it difficult to accept the court’s ruling and should not even engage the Attorney-General to pursue the matter further.

Mr. Mapani says if the former ministers will not be made to pay back this money, the nation will be sending a very bad image to the outside world.

He adds that President Edgar Lungu has also promised to fight corruption head on, and that his commitment should be seen by letting the ministers pay what is due to the people of Zambia.
