Congratulatory messages have continued pouring into State House following the re-election of President Edgar Lungu.

The latest congratulatory messages are from President Sergio Mattarella of Italy, President Arthur Peter Wamutharika of Malawi, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, and Emperor Akihito of Japan.

In his congratulatory message, Italian President Sergio Mattarella expressed confidence that President Lungu will further consolidate the traditional democracy which characterises the Republic of Zambia.

Mr Mattarella hoped for continued consolidation of the ties of cooperation between Zambia and Italy both at bilateral level, as well as in the framework of the United Nations system during President Lungu’s new mandate.

Malawian President Professor Wamutharika said President Lungu’s re-election is a clear indication of the trust and confidence that the people of Zambia have in his policies and the Patriotic Front to move Zambia forward.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said he is convinced that Zambia will thrive further and contribute to Africa’s peace and prosperity under President Lungu’s prominent leadership.

Mr Abe assured that Japan will continue to contribute to Zambia’s development by steadily implementing measures that were announced at the Sixth Tokyo International Conference on Africa Development (TICADVI) held in Kenya from 27 to 28 August 2016.

The Japanese Prime Minister also expressed willingness to cooperate closely with President Lungu to further promote the long steady friendly and cooperative bilateral relationship between Zambia and Japan, and enhance cooperation between the two countries on the international arena including United Nations Security reform.

And in his congratulatory message, Japanese Emperor Akihito expressed his heartfelt congratulations and sincere good wishes for the success and happiness of the President and for the prosperity of the people of Zambia.
