The opposition UPND has joined stakeholders opposing plans to establish the commission of inquiry on post election violence as announced by President Edgar Lungu saying it is a tool aimed at intimidating the opposition.

The opposition political party is however encouraging President Lungu to ensure that the commission of inquiry also looks at the violence that was experienced before and during the elections.

UPND Chairman for Rural Reconstruction and Development Moono Mapani says if President Lungu is really committed on finding the root cause of political violence in Zambia, then he should ensure that the commission also looks at the violence that was experienced before the elections.

Mr. Mapani says the PF and President Lungu are a culprit of political violence as on several occasions they orchestrated it in the spirit of silencing the opposition.

He says if President Lungu wants to do the nation a service, he should also make sure that the commission is allowed to investigate all forms of violence even before the elections.
