A report carried out by ActionAid Zambia on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 5 and 10 has recommended governments in developing countries to urgently improve on their policy readiness if they want to have any chances of achieving development goals.

The report shows that governments in developing countries do not yet have the laws and policies in place to allow them to achieve SDG 5 on gender equality and SDG 10 on reduced inequality.

And speaking during the handing over of the findings of a report carried by ActionAid to Gender Permanent Secretary Edwidge Mutale, ActionAid Country Director Nalucha Ziba says there is also need for governments to adopt and strengthen sound policies and enforceable legislation for the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls at all levels.

Ms Ziba says there is also need to undertake reforms to give women equal rights to economic resources as well as access to ownership and control over land and other forms of property, financial services, inheritance and natural resources in accordance with national laws.

And Gender Permanent Secretary Edwidge Mutale says such reports are important in helping government in its implementation of policies and programs.
