NGOCC aggrieved Lungu has appointed few women

The Non Governmental Organizations’ Coordinating Council (NGOCC) is aggrieved by the fact that President Lungu has departed from his earlier pledge to appoint more women in positions of decision making.

NGOCC Chairperson Sarah Longwe says the President has thus derailed the gender equity and equality mandate stipulated in the ratified AU/SADC Gender Protocols and he has also contravened the gender principles required in the Amended Constitution of 2016.

Ms Longwe says NGOCC remains hopeful that the President shall nonetheless provide the necessary leadership so that the following constitutional mandates on nomination and election of Speakers of the National Assembly are complied with.

She sadly notes that the August 11 general elections have in many ways been divisive to the country.

She adds that regrettably, the regional voting that has seemingly emerged is without doubt a big threat to the national unity and peace.

Ms Longwe is again hopeful that President Lungu will take deliberate measures and actions to re-unite the country in the true spirit of One Zambia, One Nation.
