ACC elated by Lungu’s pledge to fight corruption

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is elated by the pronouncement made on the fight against corruption by President Edgar Lungu during his speech at the Presidential Inauguration ceremony on Tuesday.

ACC Acting Director General Irene Lamba says the President’s comment that his Government will do more in the fight against corruption demonstrates his dedication to the fight against corruption in Zambia and shows a clear political will to curb the vice.

Ms Lamba says the Commission will continue, with the support of stakeholders, including Government, to discharge its mandate efficiently and effectively in order to significantly reduce the levels of corruption in the country.

Ms Lamba says the Commission therefore calls on all citizens and residents to resist the temptation of engaging in corruption but instead work hard and uphold integrity as they endeavor to better their lives and develop the economy.

She says as the president mentioned in his address, engaging in corruption cannot be a substitute to the pride that comes from personal effort and determination to achieve prosperity.

The Acting ACC Director General says Public Officers should ensure that their official powers or positions are not used for personal advantage.

Ms Lamba states that the Commission will not hesitate to take action against any individuals found engaging in corrupt activities.
