Lwandamina motivated to beat Sundowns

Although Mamelodi Sundowns have previously defeated Zesco United, coach George Lwandamina says he was not in charge of the team and insists they have nothing to fear ahead of their CAF Champions League tie on the weekend.

In the past few seasons, the Tshwane giants jetted off to Zambia to set up their pre-season camps and played a number of friendlies against Zambian sides including Zesco.

However, Lwandamina says they don’t fear their CAF Champions League semifinal opponents as the tournament comes with motivation.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Lwandamina, who has been excused of his Chipolopolo duties to focus on his task with Zesco, believes they can beat the Pitso Mosimane’s side.

“Do we have to fear them because we have lost to them in friendlies?,” Lwandamina said.

“This is the Champions League and it has its own motivational factors so you cannot bank on what happened in the past.

“I have never played them because every time they were in the country, I was out.

“Of course I don’t know much about them but the motivation that this type of competition carries will be able to motivate the boys to do better.

“I know it will not be an easy game because all games are difficult.”

The first leg will be staged at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola, Zambia on Saturday September 17.
