The opposition United Progressive People’s Party (UPP) says now is the time for the country to begin the period of national healing, reconciliation and rehabilitation.
UPP President Dr. Savior Chishimba says the slush and burn and trample upon campaigns were too fractious to be given more time to linger.
Dr. Chishimba says Zambia must once again live as an oasis of peace, harmony and tranquility in diversity.
He says the hate speech coming from leaders in government and the tribal divide that have been seen in the nation cannot be ignored citing that the country cannot pretend that all is well but must face the cancer squarely before it either destroys the future.
He adds that the holding of a national truth and reconciliation public hearing appears to be the most appropriate thing to do for national healing immediately after the report of the commission.
Dr. Chishimba has further appealed to his fellow opposition political leaders to accept and respect the will of the people of Zambia stressing that it will not be in the interest of the nation to continue seeking redress in the courts on matters that are purely political.
