The Supreme Court is this afternoon set to rule on whether the inauguration of president-elect Edgar Lungu should go ahead or not while there are still Court processes challenging his re-election.

The UPND which has challenged the declaration of President Lungu as winner of the August 11 presidential election had appealed to the Supreme Court to hear its application for a conservatory order to block the inauguration ceremony.

This was after the High Court refused to grant the order on Friday last week.

When the matter came up for interparte hearing this morning in chambers before Supreme Court Judge Nigel Mutuna, the UPND relied on the same record it filed in the High Court which was dismissed.

Judge Mutuna then adjourned the matter to 14:00 hours for ruling on the application which the State has opposed.

Meanwhile the UPND has withdrawn the application it made in the Constitutional Court to restrain Chief Justice Irene Mambilima, her Deputy Mervin Mwanamwambwa or any other authority to swear-in President-elect Edgar Lungu and vice president-elect Inonge Wina tomorrow, Tuesday, 13th September.

The UPND feels it will not get a fair hearing from Constitutional Court Judge Mungeni Mulenga before whom the application was made.

Meanwhile invited international guests have started arriving for President-elect Edgar Lungu’s inauguration ceremony tomorrow.

Among the invited foreign dignitaries expected to attend the swearing-in ceremony are Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe,Uganda’s Yoweri Museveni and Botswana’s Seretse Khama Ian Khama.
