Lungu reminded of fresh referendum task

President Edgar Lungu has been reminded of the responsibility he still has of ensuring that a fresh standalone referendum on the Bill of Rights is held before 2021.

President Lungu is being urged to be mindful that the Constitutional Court will remain a white elephant if the expanded Bill of Rights is not included in the Country’s Constitution.

The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) does not think government’s position that there could not be money for a referendum anytime soon holds any water.

Governance advisor Isaac Mwanza says his organization is of the view that government can use the money that was set aside for a possible rerun of the August presidential election.

Mr. Mwanza has told QTV News in an interview that this is why YALI does not believe the issue of funds should be a source of concern in this respect.

He states that his organization is ready to mobilize funds and public support to ensure  that a fresh referendum on the Bill of Rights is held before 2021.
