The Department of National Parks and Wildlife has arrested seven suspects in the Lower Zambezi National Park for elephant poaching.

The suspects are Goodson Mutepuka, Alex Chiyangi, Joswell Zulu, Kalenga Kababu, and Francis Kalima all from Lusaka.

Others are Elijah Daka also of Lusaka and Ackim Palazungo, a coxswain working for Breezers Lodge in Chirundu.

Ministry of Tourism and Arts public relation officer Sakabilo Kalembwe narrates that in what appeared like an action movie, the suspects had a get-away car on land and had loaded the elephant ivory on a speedboat, which took off into the deep waters of the Zambezi upon realizing the presence of Wildlife officers at the scene.

He says the officers pursued the suspects with a speedboat and cornered them in the deep.

Mr Kalembwe says two .458 rifles, seven rounds of ammunition, a pair of ivory tusks , and the speedboat belonging to Zambezi breezers were recovered.
