Zesco to set up 1, 200 MW power station in Luapula

Power Utility Company ZESCO has disclosed that the feasibility study for the 1, 200 Mega Watts Luapula Hydro Power Station will commence next month.

Zesco Spokesperson Henry Kapata tells QTV News that five sites for the setting up of the power plant in the Luapula basin have since been identified.

Mr. Kapata says the project is currently at the technical consultation level.

He says the Luapula Power Project which will be carried out in collaboration with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Mr. Kapata has also disclosed that the Musonda Falls power station which is being upgraded will be commissioned in February 2017.

He says works have now reached 94 percent completion.

And Mr Kapata ZESCO says the Batoka Power Station project which will be the biggest in Southern Africa Region with the production capacity of about 2, 400MW of power will help address the country’s electricity challenges once completed.
