The Opposition United Party for National Development UPND has defended its decision to petition the outcome of the presidential election.

UPND Secretary General Steven Katuka says there is nothing wrong for anyone to petition an election they feel was marred by irregularities and feel they were treated unfairly by the one in charge of conducting the elections.

Mr. Katuka has also dispelled reports that the cartel influenced the party to petition the presidential election.

He says the party was compelled to petition the declaration of president-elect Edgar Lungu as the winner of the presidential election because of the manner the Electoral Commission of Zambia conducted themselves during and after the elections.
