Chief Mukobela of the Ila speaking people in Namwala district has dispelled reports that what has been going on in Namwala is ethnic cleansing as reported in some sections of the media.
Chief Mukobela says what is happening in Namwala are interparty fights and not inter tribal fights.
He explains that just like the Bembas have had their property destroyed, Ilas have equally suffered the same fate as a result of the interparty fights.
Chief Mukobela states that it is therefore wrong to say that the Ilas are fighting other tribes in the district when they are also affected.
The traditional leader says the media should desist from reporting lies especially that such reports have the potential to divide the nation.
He says there is need to focus on unifying the country and not divide it through false information.
Chief Mukobela has since urged the Independent Broadcasting Authority to monitor the broadcasting stations that are reporting things that are not happening and bring them to book.
