Govt bemoans poor quality of infrastructure

Government has bemoaned the poor quality of infrastructure that has continued to be seen in the country despite the availability of professional bodies to regulate various players in the construction industry.

Speaking in Lusaka today during a stakeholders consultative meeting organized by the National Council for Construction to review the performance of the construction industry in Zambia, Ministry of works and supply Permanent Secretary Misheck Lungu encouraged the National Council for Construction not to hesitate in taking punitive measures against erring members.

He has warned that government will use harsh measures to help the NCC perform if no improvement is witnessed in the construction sector.

Mr Lungu has also noted the need for the construction industry to address the gaps in the legal framework in order to effectively regulate the industry.

And National Council for Construction Executive Director Charles Mushota says there is need for the stakeholders especially local contractors to work together in order to deliver quality works.

He notes that development in the construction sector can be attained if local contractors commit themselves to delivering works of good quality.
