Women’s Lobby vindicated on referendum

The Zambia National Women’s Lobby (ZNWL) says it has been vindicated on the outcome of the referendum.

ZNWL Board chairperson Beauty Katebe had earlier predicted that the referendum was going to be a flop.

Ms. Katebe says they saw what was happening during the polling day citing that a lot of people were just messing up the referendum which gave them an indication that the referendum was not going to be a success.

She says a lot of people did not know or understand the referendum citing that the period was too short for the masses to be sensitized on the referendum.

Ms. Katebe says the exercise needed a lot of attention and holding it alongside the general elections made it worse as people concentrated on political campaigns and not the referendum.

She however notes that the civil society organizations had tried to sensitize people on the referendum but that it was still not enough.

Ms. Katebe says the country needs more time to hold the referendum if it has to succeed.
