FRA starts paying farmers in Kasempa

The Food Reserve Agency (FRA) in Kasempa has commenced giving payments to farmers who supplied maize to the agency.

According to the Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU) Weekend Brief made available to QFM News today, a check by ZNFU at NATSAVE bank Kasempa branch found scores of farmers receiving payments.

The farmers are happy with the development but are just worried with the low number of people who are being paid per satellite depot.

Despite the slow pace at which the payments are being made, farmers are optimistic that they will be paid in good time to enable them prepare for the next farming season.

And in another development, the purchasing of maize by the FRA this year has been a challenge in Chadiza District due to the low floor price of maize pegged by FRA compared to other private buyers in the District.

According to the information availed to the ZNFU in Eastern Province, the Food Reserve Agency has so far only bought 1,232 x 50kgs bags of maize from 10 Depots out of 23 Depots and only 738 bags of maize have been transported to the main shed in the district.

The FRA in Chadiza has not yet started paying farmers who supplied maize to the agency.
