Civil Society Scaling Up Nutrition (CSO-SUN) has urged the Patriotic Front to reduce stunting in the country by 10 percent in the next five years following its re-election in the just ended general election.

CSO-SUN Programs Officer Meander Chileshe says a country’s economic productivity depends on its young population, stressing that if a child’s nutritional needs are not met, the result is stunted growth.

Ms. Chileshe says there is need for government to eliminate all forms of malnutrition by ensuring a Zambia where every person is food and nutrition secure.

She says her organization is calling on the Patriotic Front administration to give priority to fighting malnutrition in view of recent studies that showed that many children in Zambia suffer from stunting, or being too short for their age.

Ms Chileshe states that ending malnutrition is ultimately a political choice.

She has since called on the government to invest in agriculture to increase productivity and food security in Zambia.
