The Zambia Elections Information Centre (ZEIC) says the final presidential election results announced by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) are consistent with the data it received from its observers on the ground.
Speaking during a media briefing this morning, ZIEC Council of Elders Chairperson Fr. Leonard Chiti has however, noted the many irregularities cited by political stakeholders that need to be resolved and addressed by the Electoral Commission of Zambia to ensure the integrity of the process if maintained.
He notes that the UPND is in the process of initiating a legal process in the Constitutional Court to challenge the outcome of the presidential election, and hopes that the matter will be expeditiously and fairly dealt with.
Fr. Chiti has called upon the nation to remain united and seek to patch the emerging ethnic divide which he says is detrimental to national development and the continued harmonious co-existence of its people.
Fr. Chiti has urged leaders from all sectors to do everything in their power to look at ways of bringing the nation together in unity, peace and tranquility.
