Elections will only be held today – ECZ

Priscilla Isaacs ECZThe Electoral Commission of Zambia says polling stations which opened late for voting will have the lost time compensated at the close of the official voting period.

ECZ Director Priscilla Isaacs says has told a media briefing that most polling stations opened late in rural areas.

Ms Isaacs has attributed this to the bad terrain in the affected areas.

And Ms Isaac says the Commission has allowed the word official to be written on the back of ballot papers were they would normally stamp to validate the ballot in view of the faint ink of the official mark.

And Ms Isaac has advised members of the public to ignore information circulating on social media that there will be different days of voting for various political parties.

She says such information is completely false as the election day is only today 11th August,2016.

Ms Isaacs says there is no directive or adjustment to the Commission election timetable that elections will continue tomorrow.

Meanwhile the ECZ has noted with dismay that some voters have ignored the directive by the Commission not to take photographs of marked ballot papers.

Ms Isaacs says some people are already posting marked ballot papers on the social media contrary to the electoral regulations.
