TIZ hails Constitutional Court ruling

Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) has hailed the landmark ruling by the Constitutional Court that Ministers have been occupying their offices illegally and should pay back all public funds that they earned after Parliament was dissolved.

TIZ Executive Director Goodwell Lungu says the judgment sets a good precedent and gives confidence to Zambians that they can rely on the Constitutional court on Constitutional matters. Goodwell TIZ

He says TIZ encourage the Constitutional Court not to backpedal on making such judgments that go against the interests of the Executive especially interpreting the constitution correctly.

Mr Lungu states that this is part of checks and balances that TIZ has always been looking and advocating for.

He says TIZ has always maintained that governance Institutions and their independence is key in a growing democracy such as Zambia’s.

Mr Lungu has since appealed to all former Ministers to fully comply with the Constitutional Court ruling as there is no appeal in the matter as the Constitutional Court judgments are final.
