The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has arrested over 20 people countrywide for drug trafficking and money laundering offences.

Those arrested include Meckson Maipeke, 40, a small-scale farmer of Mamfunda Village in Central Province for trafficking in 43.7Kg of loose cannabis, and Marshall Samakai, 35, a small-scale farmer of Inshindi Village in Zambezi District for trafficking in 36Kg of loose cannabis.

Others arrested include Chris Muchali, 34, of Kabulamwanda Village in Namwala District for trafficking in 6.03Kg of loose cannabis and Ben Nchimunya, 36, of the same abode for trafficking in 6.7Kg of loose cannabis.

Meanwhile in Eastern Province, the Commission has arrested and jointly charged Inasio Banda, 30, a Mozambican from Chifunde District in Mozambique, and Donizio Phiri, 25, a Zambian from Ndondela Village in Chadiza District for trafficking in 9.2kg of loose cannabis.

In Luapula Province, the Commission has arrested Abel Chintende, 26, a small-scale farmer of Kanyambo Village in Nchelenge District for trafficking in 2.4kg of loose cannabis, and Chisala Sompwe, 26, a charcoal burner of Chilemu Village in Samfya District for trafficking in 1.6kg of loose cannabis.

And the Commission through its Anti-Money Laundering Investigations Unit in Kabwe District has arrested Gift Musumba, 27, of Makululu Compound in Kabwe and Jeff Ndalameta, 20,  a Student at the National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA)  in Lusaka  for unlawful possession of counterfeit notes and money laundering contrary to the Laws of Zambia.

The duo, jointly and whilst acting together on dates unknown but between 17th June, 2016 and 21st June, 2016 were in possession of K1,000 counterfeit notes in K100 bills.

The duo is alleged to have been using K100 fake notes to buy beers at a known bar in Makululu compound in Kabwe and kept retaining the change.

Through this scheme, the suspects realised K525 cash, proceeds of crime which has since been seized.

All suspects will appear in court soon.
