Unionized workers at UNZA on go slow

Unionized workers at University of Zambia (UNZA) Great East campus have gone on a go slow following nonpayment of their July salaries.

The University of Zambia Lecturers and Researchers Union (UNZALARU), the University of Zambia Professional Staff Union (UNZAPROSU) and the University of Zambia and Allied Workers Union (UNZAAWU) have demanded that government pays them their salaries before resuming work.

And UNZALARU General Secretary Jason Mwanza has confirmed the development to Qfm News via telephone that it is unfortunate that the workers at UNZA are considered least when it comes to payment of salaries.

Mr. Mwanza says the Ministry of Finance is quick to release salaries for other workers in other institutions and wonders why it is difficult for them to pay the UNZA workers their salaries on time.

The UNZALARU has emphasized that the workers have gone on a go slow so as to look for money to look after their families adding that the workers have families to take care of.

He clarifies that the workers are ready to call off their go slow for as long as they are paid their salaries.
