Government has been encouraged to go a step further and revamp other textile companies in the country in order to promote higher-quality artisanal textile production in Zambia.

Jessy Banda, a Handloom Weaver from Ndola, says the reopening of Mulungushi Textiles in Ndola is a step in the right direction but that government should go a step further and revamp Kafue and Mukuba Textiles.

MS Banda states that if well managed, the cotton handloom sector in Zambia has the potential to contribute substantially to employment creation and poverty reduction.

She tells QTV News at the just ended Agriculture and Commercial Show in Lusaka that there is potential in cotton farming and she foresees the increase in production with the reopening of the textiles in Kabwe.

Ms Banda has since encouraged government and other relevant stakeholders not to relent but continue supporting local Weavers for the growth of the nation.
