Govt asked to protect citizens ahead of polls

Political Scientists Dr. Alex Ng’oma has called on government to put in stringent measures to protect Zambians from violent political party cadres as the election date draws nearer.

And the Political Scientist has called on political party leaders to prove to the nation that they are above bold and end the vice before it is too late.

Dr. Ng’oma, who is also University of Zambia (UNZA) Political Science Lecturer, says there is need for government to come up with measures that will see to it that people are protected given the recent scenarios where people are physically attacked for supporting a particular political party.

He says political violence continues to be a source of worry in political system of the country.

He adds that the spirit of attacking each other is not a spirit of Zambians and it must not be tolerated.

Meanwhile, Dr. Ng’oma has praised the Electoral Commission of Zambia for being transparent so far in their dealings saying they should continue on this path and hold credible elections.
