MAZ counsels millers in Zambia
The Millers Association of Zambia (MAZ) has advised milling companies to ensure they engage the Zambia Weights and Measures Agency to avoid situations where they package underweight mealie meal.
MAZ Chairman Andrew Chintala says it is unfortunate that some of its members have been found guilty of the offence of packaging and offering for sale underweight mealie meal.
He however notes that there are a number of factors that could have led to some milling companies packaging underweight mealie meal.
Mr Chintala explains that one of the factors could be that the scales the milling companies were using could have been faulty thereby giving wrong measurements.
Mr. Chintala says the association is happy that some millers have already paid their fines which is punishment enough for them.
