Government has reiterated its deliberate prioritization of the fight against corruption because of the devastating effects of the vice on a country’s development.

Speaking during the launch of the evaluation reports for the National Anti-corruption Policy and the Integrity Committee programme in Zambia in Lusaka today, Deputy Secretary to Cabinet, Peter Kasanda says government will continue supporting measures such as the institutionalization of corruption prevention in public institutions.

Mr. Kasanda says the two reports have highlighted some successes and challenges in the implementation of the NACP and Integrity Committee programme.

He cites the mainstreaming of Integrity Committees in some public and private institutions, establishment of code of ethics and service Charters and engagement of traditional leaders as some of the successes.

And Mr. Kasanda says government is also aware that the ACC and its Stakeholders have commenced a review of the policy with a view of coming up with a new policy which spans another five years of implementation.

He expressed optimism that the revised policy will be more inclusive of other players such as the private sector and civil society organizations.

And ACC Chairperson Justice Timothy Kabalata says the launch of the National Anti-Corruption policy and integrity committee programme evaluation reports is yet another milestone in the Anti-Corruption crusade.

Justice Kabalata says the reports demonstrate commitment by government to achieve good governance through prevention and fighting corruption in a much more coordinated and inclusive manner.

Speaking earlier, ACC acting Director General Irene Lamba said corruption presents a major obstacle to development, growth and effective functioning of the rule of law.
