Maize smugglers open new routes

Maize smugglers have opened new routes in an effort to evade the radar of security personnel.

Food Reserve Agency Executive Director Chola Kafwabulula says the newest route being used by smugglers is the Mansa- Luwingu Road.

He says maize is being taken out using the Mansa -Luwingu Road then into Kasama and onward to Mbala and Mpulungu before exiting Zambia.

Mr Kafwabulula says another area identified as being actively used by smugglers was the Mugubudu area in Eastern Province.

He says the FRA will continue working closely with state security wings, especially the Zambia National Service, to curb the vice which if left unchecked has the potential to compromise food security.
