TIZ cautions against engagement in electoral corruption

Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) has advised candidates taking part in this year’s August general elections to stork of the lessons learnt from the 2011 general elections.

TIZ is reminding candidates to keep in mind that owing the levels of electoral malpractices in those general elections the Country ended up having over 60 election petitions.

Executive Director Goodwell Lungu says what however is more of a danger this time around is the dire consequences that the amended republican constitution provides for perpetrators of such malpractices.

Mr. Lungu has urged all candidates to be wary that if they are found to have engaged in this vice they risk losing their won sits and thereby disqualified from ever taking part in elections in the Country.

He notes that the TIZ’s concern is therefore that history does not repeat itself in this year’s general elections as it will be a drain on public resources.

Mr. Lungu states that this is why his organization has not relented at sensitizing candidates across the country on the dangers of engaging in electoral corruption and other malpractices.
