UPND u-turns on national prayers attendance

The United Party for National Development (UPND) has rescinded its decision not to attend the National Day of Prayer called by the National House of Prayer Board.

UPND Secretary General Stephen Katuka in a statement says party vice president for politics Canisius Banda will lead the UPND delegation in joining the National House of Prayer in Lusaka for prayers for peaceful elections.Katuka-e1449209357357

Mr Katuka says while party president Hakainde Hichilema and his running mate Geoffrey Mwamba will be in Southern and Northern provinces respectively on 24th July, they will also join prayers from their locations.

He says the UPND will use the prayers to also pray for justice for those who have been victim of acts of electoral violence and their families.

The opposition party had earlier indicated that it will not be part of the national day of prayers accusing the organizers of being biased towards the ruling Patriotic Front.
