ECZ will not postpone elections

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) says there no law that gives it power to postpone a general election.

Responding to insinuations that the Commission intends to postpone the August 11^th elections, ECZ Spokesperson Crispin Akufuna says the Commission can only postpone a by-election if the environment is conducive to hold a peaceful, credible and fair election.

Mr. Akufuna says stakeholders should desist from making statements that may cause confusion before, during and after the elections.

He states that the credibility of the Commission in holding credible elections cannot be questioned.

Mr Akufuna adds that even claims of rigging the August elections are neither here nor there, stating that the commission is ready to conduct credible elections.
