Private sector engine of economy – Lungu

President Edgar Lungu says government is stands ready to listen to progressive economic ideas from the private sector aimed at improving the country’s economy.

Speaking during a dinner hosted by the Kasama business community at Luzuwa lodge last evening, President Lungu says the private sector is the engine of any nation’s economy in the world Zambia included.

Mr. Lungu states that a vibrant private sector plays an important role to Zambia’s economy hence government is committed to partnering with the private sector.

He urged the Kasama business community to make proposals to the government on how best to improve the Zambian economy.

President Lungu adds that government is revamping the northern tourism circuit by upgrading the Kasama airport and opening up the Samora Machel ZAF airbase in Mbala to civilian aircraft because of the tourism potential of the province.

And speaking at the same event, Kasama Business Community Chairperson Burton Mugala lamented that investors are shunning Kasama because of its geographical location.

He called on government to consider making Kasama a tax free district or zone in order to attract investors.
