Police raid,tear gas GBM’s Kasama residence

Police at GBM's housePolice in Kasama have tear gassed and raided UPND vice president for administration Geoffrey Mwamba’s house whose occupants at the time included his wife and grand children.

And Police Northern Province Commission Bonnie Kapeso has told QFM that Police have arrested 28 UPND cadres following the raid for pulling down PF campaign posters in Kasama.

Mr Kapeso says police received information around 05:00hours that some UPND cadres were removing PF posters in town and that upon pursuing them the cadres ran to Mr Mwamba’s residence were police followed them.

He says Police forced their way into Mr Mwamba residence and recovered seven petrol bombs and other offensive weapons.

Mr Kapeso states that the arrested UPND cadres are detained in Police custody.

And UPND President Hakainde Hichilema has condemned the pre-dawn raid by Police on Mr Mwamba’s house resulting in his wife, children and small grandchildren having to seek treatment at the hospital for tear gas effects.

He says this is another clear case of political persecution and the use of public institutions to serve partisan purposes.

Mr Hichilema states that such incidents serve as a reminder of just what is at stake for the country on 11th August, 2016.

Mr Hichilema has however, appealed to UPND supporters in the area to continue campaigning peacefully.
