The Southern African Center for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD) has encouraged chiefs to play a pivotal role in ending political violence which it says has become a national disaster.

SACCORD Executive Director Boniface Chembe has since praised Chieftainess Ikelenge of Ikelenge district for warning that she will expel from her chiefdom political parties canvassing for votes from the electorate using violence as a campaign strategy.

Mr Cheembe says all efforts aimed at ending violence in the country are welcome because of the levels political violence has reached.

Mr. Cheembe says chiefs should be seen to take firm action against perpetrators of violence in their chiefdoms as this will also contribute to curbing this negative vice.

He says it is a shame that political party leaders have failed to stop this ugly vice despite receiving massive condemnation from different stakeholders both within and outside the country.
