The Nevers Mumba led MMD faction has dismissed the story in today’s edition of the Daily Nation suggesting that Dr Mumba will be appointed Prime Minister in the event that the UPND won next month’s elections.
National Secretary Reverend Reuben Sambo in a statement says there is no paragraph or sentence in the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the UPND and MMD stating that a position of Prime Minister would be created and offered to Dr. Mumba.
Reverend Sambo says while it is public knowledge that the UPND and MMD publicly signed a Memorandum of Understanding and entered into a strategic electoral alliance on 26th May, 2016 at the Chainama Hotel, and not 25th May as claimed in the Daily Nation, the details of the alliance have yet to be finalized as the urgent matter for the alliance partners was to focus on delivering their message to the electorate as evidenced by the on-going countrywide campaigns.
He says any rumours on the details of the MoU which is yet to be conclusively agreed are mere speculation meant to detract the alliance partners from the ongoing successful campaign.
Reverend Sambo states that Dr. Mumba was extremely categorical in his speech during the signing of the MOU that he was not looking for a position, but delivering the country from a weak, irresponsible and mediocre leadership and urged Zambians to seek for premier leadership to restore good governance, the rule of law and the once vibrant economy.
