State House says President Edgar Lungu can only act within the provisions of law in ensuring that political violence is curbed.

Special assistant to the president for press and public relations Amos Chanda has told QFM in a telephone interview that this is especially that Zambia is not a Police state where people should be arrested arbitrary.

Mr Chanda says the current political situation in the country does not require any further measures than President Lungu has put in place to curb political violence.

He says President Lungu has put the Zambia Police under firm instruction to deal with any form of political violence.

Mr. Chanda says this is besides having signed the peace accord as well as his continued denunciation of political violence at every public rally he conducts.

He however, states that this does not mean the President cannot do further than this as he still has the powers to put in place other measures in the event of an emergency situation.
