Political Scientist Chris Zimba has urged political parties to comply with temporary ban on campaigns imposed by the Electoral Commission of Zambia in Lusaka and Namwala districts.

Mr. Zimba says political parties should show remorse and take advantage of the suspension period to put their houses in order.

He says the campaigns suspension period is an opportunity for political parties to demonstrate that they respect the rule of law and legal establishments such as the ECZ.

Mr. Zimba adds that the suspension should make political parties realize that if violence continues, even the elections can be suspended and thus the need for them to conduct themselves in a manner that is acceptable.

He laments that political parties that have nothing to do with the violence have also been made to pay for the sins of the parties engaging in violence.

Mr. Zimba has further urged the police to ensure the suspension is enforced and those found disregarding the law and are dealt with.
