Government has tasked National Food Nutrition Commission to expedite the process of implementing the recommendations from stakeholders on scaling up nutrition.

Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Dr. Peter Mwaba says there is need for all stakeholders to rid the country of the scourge of Malnutrition.

Speaking during a stakeholders meeting on Nutrition in Lusaka today, Dr. Mwaba has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to address malnutrition and other obstacles affecting the fulfillment of children’s rights.

He says Stakeholders have a critical role to play in consolidating the economic gains made by the country to change the lives of children in Zambia.

Dr Mwaba notes that stakeholders can make a difference by advocating and communicating the urgency to reduce malnutrition and stunting in households, communities, and the nation at large.

He says there is urgent need to address nutrition issues in the country because more than one third of young children suffer from malnutrition with devastating consequences on health, learning,future earning potential, economic development, resilience and security.

Dr Mwamba has also encouraged the CSO scaling up nutrition not to relent in efforts to make the move towards the successful implementation of recommendations from stakeholders on scaling up nutrition.
