Police accused of selective provision of security during campaigns

Police officersThe Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) has bemoaned the selective provision of security by the police service during the campaign period.

CCZ president Bishop Dr Alfred Kalembo says this is evident from the cancellation of political rallies at short notice.

Bishop Kalembo says this action by the police in the provision of security and peace to the citizens will culminate into suppression, oppression of people with divergent views and intimidation.

He points out that the killing of a female UPND supporter last Friday by Police is a clear indication of the circumstances that arise from within a society whose people are muzzled and gagged to express divergent views.

Bishop Kalembo says it is unfortunate that UPND supporters where treated with such force prior to the cancellation of their permit to hold a rally in Chawama township.

He says the CCZ strongly condemns the unprecedented brutal killing of the UPND supporter.

This is contained in a statement made available to QFM News.
