Govt releases money to pay UNZA workers

Government has released money towards the payment of salaries for University of Zambia (UNZA) workers who had gone on go slow to pushed for their delayed June salaries.

Higher Education permanent Secretary Owen Mugemezulu has told QTV that the ministry of finance released the money last week.

Mr. Mugemezulu says any further delays in the payment of salaries will have nothing to do with government, but the university administration.

He says government remains committed to the wellbeing of the workers.

And University of Zambia Lecturers and Researchers Union (UNZALARU) General Secretary Jason Mwanza has confirmed that workers started receiving their salaries last week.

He however, states that it should not take the workers to stage a protest before government can releases their salaries.
