Suspension of campaigns in Lusaka & Namwala commended

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has been commended for suspending campaigns in Lusaka and Namwala Districts for a period of 10 days.

The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) has also urged the ECZ  to use the 10 days period to call on all  political parties to reflect and find a lasting  solutions to end electoral violence in the Country.

YALI governance Advisor Isaac Mwanza says his organization believes the 10 days must be used to address critical issues of how campaigns are being conducted and the root causes of political violence.

He states that YALI is of the view that without addressing these issues and finding a solution, the suspension of the campaigns will serve no purpose.

Mr. Mwanza says his organization is thus calling upon the Police to show they can be impartial in enforcing the suspension on all political parties.

He notes that failure to do so will be unfortunate.
