Murder of Mapenzi Chibula was unnecessary – ZNWL

The Zambia National Women’s Lobby (ZNWL) has added its voice in strongly condemning the killing of a female UPND supporter Mapenzi Chibula by the Zambia Police in Kanyama on Friday last week.

The ZNWL further condemns the use of live ammunition in dispersing unarmed UPND protesters in Kanyama, which resulted in the killing of Ms. Chibula and the injuring of other UPND supporters.

Board Chairperson Beauty Katebe says the use of live ammunition in Friday’s incident was uncalled for because the UPND supporters who were being pursued were unarmed.
Ms. Katebe says her organization finds it extremely unfortunate that such a young life has been lost.
She states that the ZNWL finds it quite disheartening to note that, again, it is a woman who has suffered the consequences of violence paid for with her life.
Ms. Katebe tells Qfm News in a statement that the tragic occurrence could have been avoided if the Police used other means of weapons to disperse the UPND protesters.
She says her organization thinks that her death was unnecessary and an affront to the tenets of human rights which Zambia aspire to.
