President Lungu and BRE agree in good faith

President Edgar Lungu and the Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE) have agreed that the negotiations on the Barotse Agreement of 1964 be done in good faith.

President Lungu and the BRE want the negotiations to be free of politics in order that the process is not marred by the political tensions of the current election campaigns.

This follows the meeting that was held  between President Lungu and the representatives of the Royal establishment today at State House.

In a statement released to Qfm News the President’s Special Assistant for Press and Public Relations Amos Chanda has disclosed that the meeting was meet to discuss the process towards the restoration of the Barotse Agreement of 1964.

Mr. Chanda says during the meeting President Lungu said the 1964 Barotse Agreement must be considered in the light of the current constitution and circumstances that have prevailed over time.

He says President Lungu does not want to make unrealistic pronouncements for political expedience by taking advantage of the current on-going electioneering.

Mr. Chanda says President Lungu however wants that this process take its full course after next month’s elections.

The BRE tendered an implementation plan for consideration by the government and expressed their gratitude at the President’s sincerity over the matter.

The 9-member BRE delegation was led by the acting Ngambela Induna Mukulwakashiko while President Lungu was accompanied by Justice Minister Ngosa Simbyakula and  Home Affairs Minister Davis Mwila.

Others that accompanied the President include Chiefs and Traditional Affairs Minister Joseph Katema, Local Government Minister Stephen Kampyongo and Western Province Minister Puniso Njeulu.
