Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja has justified why the opposition UPND rally that was scheduled to take place in Lusaka’s Chawama was cancelled.
Mr. Kanganja has explained in statement that the Police kept in mind security concerns that arose prior the holding of the rally.

He says the Police thus advised the UPND to consider setting another alternative date for the rally to which advice the opposition political party however ignored.
Mr. Kanganja says for the fact this was an unlawful procession the Police could not allow it to take place.
He says law and order were disturbed as opposition UPND members were also harassing motorists on their way to the Chawama from party secretariat.
Mr. Kanganja states that the Police has since arrested and charged 22 UPND cadres from yesterday fracas for the offense of unlawful Procession and Riotous behavior.
He says the 22 are currently in Police custody and will appear in Court soon.
