UNIP disagrees Southern province is most violent

The United National Independence Party (UNIP) says it is wrong to single out Southern province as the most violent during the ongoing campaigns.

Yesterday, President Edgar Lungu expressed concern that Southern Province has recorded the highest cases of political violence in the country.

But UNIP General Secretary Reverend Alfred Banda says violence is happening everywhere not withstanding its magnitude, and should therefore not be overlooked.

Reverend Banda says the warning Electoral Commission of Zambia to suspend campaigns in areas were violence is being perpetrated should therefore be practical and not a mere threat.

He notes that suspending campaigns is the best way to deter political parties from engaging in violence.
