Zanaco opened a nine-point lead at the summit of the Faz Super League table on Saturday following a 2-0 home win over Nkana at Sunset Stadium in Lusaka.

The Bankers’ victory in this rescheduled Week 7 match lifted Zanaco from 37 to 40 points from their allotted first17 matches at the mid-way point of the 2016 league season.

Goals from Aubrey Funga and Fashion Sakala ensured Zanaco stayed unbeaten from their last five games on maximum points since losing 1-0 away at Forest Rangers on June 5 in Ndola.

Zanaco took a 1-0 halftime lead after Funga beat Nkana goalkeeper Scott Ngokane in the 44th minute when he headed in a cross from Fackson Kapumbu.

Sakala extended Zanaco’s lead five minutes after the hour mark with a strike from outside the area.

The goal was Sakala’s seventh of the league campaign while Funga netted his fifth of the season.

Zanaco now head into the two-week mid-season break enjoying a healthy advantage before resuming business on July 16 with a Midlands derby date at home at the same venue against Kabwe Warriors.

Nkana, meanwhile, stay put in second place on 31 points following their fourth league defeat of the season and third loss from their last four games.
