Application of POA has worsened – UPND

The opposition UPND says the misapplication of the Public Order Act by the Police has worsened during the campaign period.

UPND Spokesperson Charles Kakoma tells QTV News that this is despite the assurance by the government to all political players that Police have been directed to apply the Act fairly.

Mr Kakoma says this is the more reason why the opposition was calling on government to review the Act before the campaigns to avoid what is happening now.

He says the misapplication of the Public Order Act by the Police is hindering the party’s campaigns as most of their movements are limited.

Mr Kakoma states that Police were expected to be fair, moderate, professional and above all balanced in the manner they discharge their duties especially during this campaign period.

Mr. Kakoma has since called on government to ensure the Police apply the Public Order Act fairly during the campaign period.
